Now, her footwear and ready-to-wear is sold in more than 400 department stores and specialty stores worldwide. — Saks Fifth Avenue, which opened its new shoe salon with its own zip code 10022-SHOE in August, is being awarded this year’s “Retailer of the Year” award. Saks’ shoe salon, located on the eighth floor of their Manhattan flagship, has given the footwear industry and the New York retail scene a massive jolt of excitement. Matt Rubel, the CEO of the $3.5 billion Collective Brands Inc., is being presented with the “Person of the Year” award for continuing to reinvent Payless ShoeSource by engineering two major acquisitions and changing Payless’ corporate name to reflect his “house of brands” strategy. Miuccia Prada, the winner of the “Designer of the Year” award, is being honored for a year in which she pushed the footwear envelope with funky styles that resulted in two blockbuster collections.

FN’s Achievement Awards issue includes a rare interview with the designer.  Macy’s is being awarded with “Marketer of the Year” for the success of their fall ad campaign. The campaign, which aimed to raise the chain’s national profile, included a series of TV spots in which celebrities such as Jessica Simpson, Kenneth Cole and Donald Trump, had some fun with their public image. Deckers Outside Corp., the owner of Uggs, is being lauded as “Company of the Year” for thriving in an environment that forced many of their competitors to post big losses in 2007. Timberland, setting the standard in the shoe industry with their sustainability initiatives, is FN’s winner of the first-ever “Green Award” for their efforts in the environment including posting a “nutritional label” on all their shoe boxes and their “Reboot” program which allows customers to turn in their worn-out boots to stores.  Crocs is being named “Newsmaker of the Year” for having captivated the footwear industry in 2007 with their swinging stock prices, escalator mishaps and their transition from fad to fully realized brand.
